Accelerate the curing process of your anaerobic adhesives and sealants with the Loctite 7649 activator. Designed to enhance bonding efficiency without compromising joint strength, this product is ideal for applications involving passive metals, inert surfaces, and large bond gaps. It's especially effective in colder environments where temperatures drop below 15°C, ensuring reliable performance even under challenging conditions.
Key features:
- Accelerates Cure Speed: Increases the curing speed of Loctite anaerobic products, particularly on passive and inactive surfaces.
- Suitable for Large Bond Gaps: Formulated to effectively fill and seal large bond gaps, ensuring strong and reliable adhesion.
- Optimised for Low-Temperature Curing: Performs exceptionally well in environments with temperatures below 15°C, maintaining adhesive integrity.
- Preserves Joint Strength: Promotes fast curing without compromising the durability and strength of bonded joints.
Loctite SF 7649 (formerly known as 7649 Primer N) is a high-performance, solvent-based surface activator designed to increase the cure speed of Loctite anaerobic adhesives and sealants. It is specifically formulated to ensure reliable bonding on "passive" metals (such as aluminum, stainless steel, and plated parts) that lack the necessary ions to trigger curing naturally. It is the industry standard for maintaining joint strength while significantly reducing fixture times in demanding assembly environments.
- Technology: Surface Activator for anaerobic adhesives.
- Chemical Type: Copper salt and Aliphatic amine.
- Solvent: Acetone.
- Appearance: Transparent, green liquid.
- Viscosity: Very low (2 mPa·s).
- Specific Gravity: 0.79 @ 25°C.
- Drying Time: 30 to 70 seconds at 20°C.
Applications:
Loctite SF 7649 is essential for projects requiring rapid assembly or the bonding of "passive" materials. Its primary applications include:
Surface Activation: Preparing inactive surfaces such as stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, and zinc dichromate for anaerobic bonding.
Low-Temperature Bonding: Ensuring a reliable and consistent cure when the ambient temperature is below 15°C (60°F), where standard anaerobic adhesives would otherwise stay liquid or cure too slowly.
Gap Filling: Facilitating the cure across large bond gaps (up to 0.5 mm) where the absence of air and metal contact is insufficient to trigger the reaction.
Maintenance & Repair: Speeding up the "return-to-service" time for critical machinery, threadlocking heavy-duty bolts, and sealing pipe threads in industrial or aerospace environments.
Directions for Use
Preparation: Clean all surfaces (male and female) using a degreasing solvent like Loctite SF 7070 to remove oil, grease, and dirt.
Activator Application: Spray or brush the activator onto both mating surfaces. For very small gaps, treating only one surface may be sufficient.
Evaporation: Allow the solvent time to evaporate under good ventilation until the surfaces are completely dry (typically 30 to 70 seconds).
Adhesive Application: Apply the Loctite anaerobic adhesive or sealant to the activated surface and assemble the parts immediately.
Assembly: Where possible, move the surfaces relative to each other for a few seconds during assembly to distribute the adhesive and ensure maximum activation.
Finalizing: Secure the assembly and wait for the "fixture time" (usually a few minutes) before further handling.
