LOCTITE 609 is a green, low-viscosity, anaerobic retaining compound designed for the bonding of cylindrical fitting parts. It is a high-strength, press-fit adhesive that cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces. It is primarily used to augment the strength of press fits or slip fits, preventing loosening and leakage from shock and vibration in critical mechanical assemblies.

LOCTITE 609 is a green, high strength methacrylate ester acrylic retaining compound designed for the bonding of cylindrical fitting parts. The product cures in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. Typical applications include rotor to shafts in fractional and subfractional horsepower motors. It locks bushings and sleeves in housings on shafts, and augments press fits.

  • Low viscosity
  • Augments press fits
  • Prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration
  • Tested to the lot requirements of Military Specification Mil-R-46082B (this is a regional approval)

Application

LOCTITE 609 is a versatile retaining compound widely used in aviation and industrial MRO for:

  • Bearing Retention: Securing bearings into housings or onto shafts to prevent spun bearings.
  • Bushings & Sleeves: Augmenting the strength of slip-fitted parts to replace or reinforce expensive press fits.
  • Keyways & Splines: Filling the inner-space to prevent wear and backlash in power transmission components.
  • Rotors & Gears: Mounting rotors on shafts in fractional and sub-fractional horsepower motors.

Restrictions

  • Plastic Compatibility: Not recommended for use on plastics, particularly thermoplastics, as it may result in stress cracking.
  • Oxygen Systems: Not for use in pure oxygen or oxygen-rich environments; do not use as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizing materials.
  • Disassembly: This is a high-strength permanent bond. Disassembly typically requires localized heat (approx. 250°C) and mechanical force.
  • Gap Size: Optimized for small radial gaps; not effective for gaps larger than 0.12 mm (0.005 in).
