THREADLOCKER AND SEALER
LOCTITE 243 is a medium-strength, blue anaerobic threadlocker designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners which require normal disassembly with standard hand tools. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces and prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration. It is particularly suited for applications on less active substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces, where disassembly with hand tools is required for servicing.

Application
LOCTITE 243 is the industry-standard "Medium Strength" blue threadlocker, specifically designed for fasteners that require regular maintenance or service. Its versatile formula makes it suitable for:
- Vibrating Assemblies: Prevents loosening of bolts on pumps, gearboxes, compressors, motors, and conveyor systems.
- Aerospace & Automotive: Ideal for engine mounting bolts, suspension components, and fluid system fasteners where resistance to oils and fuels is critical.
- Aviation Maintenance: Used extensively in airframe and power-plant assembly to secure critical components that must be removable with standard hand tools.
- Passive Metals: Effectively locks fasteners made of stainless steel, aluminum, and plated surfaces without requiring a primer.
- Contaminated Surfaces: Engineered to cure reliably even when minor traces of industrial oils (cutting fluids, engine oils, or anti-corrosion films) are present on the threads.
Directions for Use
1. Surface Preparation
- For best results, clean all internal and external threads with a degreasing solvent (such as Loctite SF 7063) and allow them to dry.
- Note: While 243 is primerless, using Loctite SF 7649 activator is still recommended for very cold environments or when a faster fixture time is needed.
2. Application Method
- For Thru Holes: Apply several drops of the product onto the bolt at the nut engagement area.
- For Blind Holes: Apply several drops down the internal threads to the bottom third of the hole. (Applying only to the bolt may trap air and prevent a full seal).
- For Sealing: Apply a 360° bead of product to the leading threads of the male fitting, leaving the first thread free.
3. Assembly & Torque
- Assemble parts and tighten to the manufacturer’s recommended torque.
- Avoid touching the bottle tip to the metal surfaces during application to prevent the product from clogging in the nozzle.
4. Disassembly
- Simply remove using standard hand tools.
- Pro Tip: If the engagement length is excessive and the fastener feels stuck, apply localized heat (approx. 250°C) to soften the polymer and disassemble while hot.
